馬褂木是中國二級保護稀有樹種、鵝掌揪屬僅鵝掌楸和北美鵝掌楸兩個種
鵝掌揪樹形雄偉，葉形奇特葉子極像馬褂，花大而秀麗。為世界著名的庭園觀賞樹種之一，是良好的庭蔭樹及行道樹。
葉、根、樹皮均可藥用。
